The purpose of this presentation is meant to educate and provide insight and context to the public about mental health issues and homelessness in our community. It will provide tools on how to safely and effectively engage with people experiencing homelessness and mental health issues as well as provide useful resources to help both business owners as well as the people experiencing these issues.
Stats: As of 2020, Long Beach had 2,034 people experiencing homeless and it has likely risen. 24.5% report mental illness. 16.8% report victims of domestic abuse. Only 39% said they had been outreaches for services. (LB Point in Time Count)
An estimated 26% of Americans ages 18 and older — about 1 in 4 adults — suffers from a diagnosable mental disorder in a given year. (Johns Hopkins, 2021)
